I'm a biologist at Massey University, New Zealand. I study the evolution of New Zealand invertebrates with a particular focus on wētā, stick insects and snails. My group (students, postdocs, collaborates) is interested in questions about selection, hybridization, and speciation. We use population genetic tools to describe natural variation in morphology and genetics within and among populations. This allows us to test predictions from evolutionary theory.

I have been using Wikipedia as a teaching tool - showing 4th year students how scientific writing needs to be clear and supported with citations from peer reviewed publications. Our research group has been making some progress to improve pages about New Zealand invertebrates. We have been improving some wētā articles by adding information from recent publications, including our own work. Although many species were described 100 years ago, there is little biology published about almost all NZ forest Rhaphidophoridae.
