This template provides a citation for use with the population estimates held in the following templates:
- {{English district population}}
- {{English district rank}}
- {{English district density}}
- {{English district density rank}}
- {{English cerem counties}}
- {{English admin counties}}
- {{Welsh council population}}
- {{Scottish council populations}}
- {{NI district population}}.
The year to which they relate (currently 2022) is held as {{United Kingdom statistics year}}. An optional parameter area produces instead a citation for the source of district area measurements, held in the following templates (and as parameters in the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish templates mentioned above):
Where the population citation varies per country add an optional parameter of the country, England, NI, Scotland or Wales.
Usage - Population
Place the template where you would normally include a citation template. You need to include the <ref> ...</ref> markup (this allows you to name the reference). Example:
- Havering has a population of {{English district population|GSS=E09000016}} ({{United Kingdom statistics year}}).<ref>{{United Kingdom district population citation|England}}</ref>
which will produce
- Havering has a population of 264,703 (2022).
with a reference for England
- "Mid-Year Population Estimates, UK, June 2022". Office for National Statistics. 26 March 2024. Retrieved 3 May 2024.
Area
- Havering has an area of {{English district area|GSS=E09000016}}km².<ref>{{United Kingdom district population citation|area}}</ref>
will produce
