James B. Longley (April 22, 1924-August 16, 1980), served as Governor of Maine from 1975 to 1979. He was the first Independent to serve as the state's Governor. He was the father of U.S. representitive James Longley, Jr., born in 1951. After Longley, Maine's next Independant Governor was Angus King, who served from 1995-2003.
