A particle trap refers to a device typically used in atomic, molecular and optical physics that uses a combination of electric fields, magnetic fields and electromagnetic radiation to confine and manipulate particles such as atoms, molecules and ions. It has applications in other sub-fields of physics such as in biophysics or plasma physics.
