Merger request

There are not enough distinct sources on the August 2024 floods to justify it being a separate page, it would better be a section here. Also Tripura has been affected by the same floods so calling it only Bangladesh floods is not accurate. 44 lakh in Bangladesh and 17 lakh in India have been affected. • Oppose The flood is also significant for the new government which is formed in the country. [1] The severity and geolocation of the floods, alleged Indian involvement leading to conspiracy theories make this flood unique in many senses. So I would be opposing the merger.

  • Oppose India is responsible for the flood and Bangladesh is the main sufferer. August 2024 Bangladesh floods should have a seperate article based on the scale. New separate article about 2024 Bangladesh floods also created. Bangladesh is a separate country.Nafis Fuad Ayon (talk) 19:22, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The reason you provided is not make sense. I support that August 2024 Bangladesh floods should not be merged into this article. But Wikipedia doesn't keep any article because of "other country is responsible for the flood and a country is the sufferer". Wikipedia has nothing to do with the relation of two countries. If any topic gains notability enough to have its own article then Wikipedia keeps it. We need to provide reasons based on notability, not based on what country did to another. Note that the initial proposal was a merge to the joint title 2024 India-Bangladesh floods, ensuring that both country names appear in the title. Klbrain (talk) 11:53, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So an article should created with the name of 2024 China-India floods? Bangladesh is not part of India. Both are different countries so should have different articles. Seperate 2024 floods of Bangladesh article already created.Nafis Fuad Ayon (talk) 05:25, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

About the move

@Nafis Fuad Ayon: There is nothing wrong with keeping information of multiple country on a flood article. This practice is very common in Wikipedia if the same flood affect more than one country (see 2022 India–Bangladesh floods). To me it is too controversial to move the article's title. So I request you to create title move discussion instead moving it on your own. Mehedi Abedin 00:06, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the article has July 2024 Bangladesh floods included in which you removed from the article. If we split that from the article then that would not be notable enough in Wikipedia. So please keep that in mind. Mehedi Abedin 00:23, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I opposes the marge. August 2024 Bangladesh floods are a significant event. There should be a separate article for this event.Nafis Fuad Ayon (talk) 05:14, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
With this logic an article should created with the name of 2024 China-India floods. Bangladesh is not part of India. Both are different countries so should have different articles.Nafis Fuad Ayon (talk) 05:26, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nafis Fuad Ayon It doesn’t work like that and please don't move pages without consensus. Wikipedia has guidelines and only uncontroversial moves can be done without consensus. Mehedi Abedin 12:21, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
