Information icon Hello, I'm Chaheel Riens. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on iJustine, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Chaheel Riens (talk) 14:05, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Simeon Brown. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you.-gadfium 23:29, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Hi gadfium, thanks for messaging me in regards to my edits on the page Simeon Brown. While I appreciate you taking the time to review my edits, I disagree that the edits amounted to anything "unconstructive" or were "vandalism". All of my amendments were backed up with reliable sources, including direct statements from the subject in question. Many of the edits expanded on key information about the subject (in my view, this is an integral part of being an editor on Wikipedia ie expanding on articles in order to facilitate broader public knowledge of the subject. This is especially important when we're talking about political figures, as is the case here). Examples of this include me expanding on the outcome of legislation sponsored by the subject that was not previously noted in the article, and also include me specifying the subject's date of birth (the article without the edits lists only their birth year).I even corrected information in that article that was false. For example, the article before my edits (and as of right now due to you reverting my edits) incorrectly stated that subject's submission on the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Act 2013 was drafted while they were a member of the Manurewa Local Board, when in fact it was when they were on the Manurewa Youth Council. Please reconsider your decision, and if not please let me know in what sense the edits were unconstructive so that I can review them and make them better.}} doubleaandreasabel 14:07, 15 July 2019 (NZT)

You changed a politician's name to "Dickhead" in multiple places. I can't take your protest that you are concerned about accuracy of the article seriously. You added a birth date with no source, and you added material about the Christchurch shootings with a reference which only briefly mentioned Brown and didn't make it clear what the connection was. You are now aware that discretionary sanctions apply to your editing, so I would suggest you avoid any controverial edits to articles about living people for the time being.-gadfium 04:08, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
