[1]

=Target Groups and Fields of Work

CBSP work program is made up of four major focus areas/groups:

1) Palestinian orphans and the disabled; providing support that includes scholarships for education and winter clothing.

2) Needy families; providing support including food aid and emergency medical aid.

3) Health care; providing support that includes hospital renovations and construction, the provision of medications and medical supplies, and salary support for health care workers.

4) Sustainable development; work in this field ranges from assisting disabled individuals in finding permanent employment, building housing and water infrastructures, and supporting Palestinian farmers. [2]

Controversy

The CBSP is listed by the US Treasury as a terrorist funding organization, alleging that the organization does fundraising for Hamas. [3]

When similar accusations were made by the head of international relations for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Stanley Trevor Samuels, the CBSP responded by filing a defamation suit in Paris court, calling such accusations "ridiculous", and stating that its charitable work consisted of providing aid to some 3,000 Palestinian orphans. [4]

On March 8 2007, the court agrees, ruling that documents produced by the Wiesenthal Center established no "direct or indirect participation in financing terrorism" on the part of the CBSP, and that the allegations were "seriously defamatory". [5]

The Wiesenthal Centre is appealing the court ruling, which it believed was unjustified. [6]
