Schueftan is a highly regarded political analyst whose concept of "unilateral disengagement" or "unilateral separation", as expressed in his 1999 book, "Disengagement, Israel and the Palestinian Entity" (in Hebrew, Korah Hahafrada: Yisrael Ve Harashut Hafalestinit)[4] has formed the basis for Israel's policy of separation or hafrada, becoming a dominant feature of public debate in Israel.
