Salmio-Toiviainen enrolled as a high school student in Helsinki high school in 1935 and began studying architecture at the [[Helsingin yhteislyseo]]. She graduated as an architect in 1941. Her thesis included the design of a museum and a library building in [[Kotka]]. She founded her own architectural office in 1947 with her spouse Esko Toiviainen. They designed the [[Nuijamaa Church|Nuijamaa church]], [[Nummela (Vihti)|Nummela]], [[Järvenpää]], [[Puotila, Helsinki|Puotila]] and [[Vihtijärvi]] chapels, as well as Luhta Oy's office building, factories and residential area in Lahti, as well as the hero's cemeteries. Several companies used them in design work. Their most famous work has been the Rantapolu semi-detached house (1953) designed together with architect Einari Teräsvirta in [[Munkkiniemi]], [[Helsinki]], which is protected in the town plan. Tarja Inkeri Salmio-Toiviainen (July 7, 1917 – January 15, 2001) was a Finnish architect.[1]

Salmio-Toiviainen graduated as an architect in 1941. Her thesis included the design of a museum and a library building in Kotka. She founded her own architectural office in 1947 with her spouse Esko Toiviainen. They designed the Nuijamaa church, Nummela, Järvenpää, Puotila and Vihtijärvi chapels, as well as Luhta Oy's office building, factories and residential area in Lahti, as well as the hero's cemeteries. Several companies used them in design work. Their most famous work has been the Rantapolu semi-detached house (1953) designed together with architect Einari Teräsvirta in Munkkiniemi, Helsinki, which is protected in the town plan.
