The plantation was located approximately halfway between the Cambodia border and Saigon and so was an important base and staging area for the Vietcong. It is also notable as the scene of intense fighting between United States forces and the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and Viet Cong forces. From 21 tp 27 February the 2nd and 3rd Brigades, 1st Infantry Division conducted Operation Mastiff, a search and destroy operation in and around the Plantation[1].
