Ahlam Shibli (Arabic: أحلام شبلي, born 1970) is a Bedouin photographer who documents the life of the Negev Bedouin in Israel.

Biography

Ahlam Shibli was born in the Bedouin village of Shibli in the Galilee. [1][2]Until the age of 18, Shibli tended the family goats. She now lives in Haifa.[3]

Artistic career

Her artistic medium is photography.[4] Her work explores the life of Israel's Bedouin population. Adrian Searle describes her work as "unsentimental and undramatic...extremely moving."[3]

Shibli was chosen as the first Artist-in-Residence for the city of Acre in a program sponsored by that city in conjunction with Israel's Ministry of Culture. Her work, "Five Senses," was exhibited at the 2002 Acco Festival of Alternative Israeli Theatre.

She has participated in the 27th São Paulo Biennial (2006/7)[5] and documenta 12 (2008).[6]
