Rugby union is a popular team sport played in Namibia.
History
Present
As in South Africa the sport is most popular among Afrikaans speaking Namibians, it is also popular among English speaking white Namibians and Namibians of German descent.
Governing body
The Namibia Rugby Union are the governing body for rugby union in Namibia.
National team

The Namibian national team are commonly known as the Welwitschia.
Domestic Competitions
Currie Cup
The Currie Cup tournament is South Africa's premier domestic rugby union competition, featuring teams representing either entire provinces or substantial regions within provinces. In the past the Nambian national team took part in the Currie Cup but no longer do so.
International Competitions
Rugby World Cup
Namibia have made the World Cup on two occasions once in 1999, where they finished bottom of their pool and again in 2003 where they suffered huge defeats to finish bottom of their pool for the second world cup running.
