AFD and discussion about women's sport notability guidelines

The AFD for Australian player article Georgia Plessas is open for comment: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Georgia Plessas. There is some discussion about women's sport notability guidelines in general. Hmlarson (talk) 18:50, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

List of international goals scored by Abby Wambach is currently a featured list candidate seeking additional feedback before it can be passed. All of the previously submitted comments for improvement have been incorporated. Please consider taking a look and adding a comment of support (or suggestions for improvement) to Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of international goals scored by Abby Wambach/archive1 so the review can be completed. Thanks. Hmlarson (talk) 01:51, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Helping review + re-publish women's international-level athlete articles

There are currently numerous articles about international-level women athletes that need review and re-publishing once references are confirmed. The deadline for this is April 24, 2017. Background information is available here: User:Aymatth2/SvG clean-up/Guidelines.

For those willing to help (any amount helps), the process goes fairly quickly once you get in a rhythm of reviewing and re-publishing. Please see User:Aymatth2/SvG clean-up/Guidelines#Lists for the lists. The main steps are to:

  1. Open a draft article from the list
  2. Check refs to confirm information in the article and make any copyedits to the article to clean up
  3. Once confirmed, move the draft to the article mainspace and activate the categories by removing the :
  4. Confirm the article's talk page is tagged with {{WP Women's sport}}

Notice about adminship to participants at this project

Many participants here create a lot of content, may have to evaluate whether or not a subject is notable, decide if content complies with BLP policy, and much more. Well, these are just some of the skills considered at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.

So, please consider taking a look at and watchlisting this page:

You could be very helpful in evaluating potential candidates, and even finding out if you would be a suitable RfA candidate.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Bot request to tag women athlete articles with the Project tag

I would like to submit a request for EarwigBot to tag articles related to women athletes with {{WikiProject Women's sport}} and related subcategories. It looks like this was originally requested by maybe LauraHale via the XenoBot - but did not get activated (per the note on the main page of the project). The new request requires a list of categories and consensus. Please add your support and any comments below under the Discussion subheader.

The list of categories I have to start include:

Questions
  • We could potentially request hockey and softball be added to the Project Template and create taskforces for those - any others?
  • The Earwig Is it possible to automatically add: needs-infobox=yes and/or needs-photo=yes if there is no infobox or photo?
Notes
To add to WP template
  • boxing=yes
  • figureskating=yes
  • fieldhockey=yes
  • gymnastics=yes
  • golf=yes
  • icehockey=yes
  • martialarts=yes
  • mma=yes
  • netball=yes
  • softball=yes
  • swimming=yes
  • tennis=yes
  • volleyball=yes

Pinging a few active members to spur discussion below Rebbing, Pink Fae, Guerillero, Bill McKenna, TitleIXHockey, Daphne Lantier, Nn94_14, Rzafar, Gobonobo, Rjpg12

  • Add netball and softball wikiprojects? {{WikiProject Women's sport|netball=yes}} and {{WikiProject Women's sport|softball=yes}}? While not entirely female, they tend to be overwhelmingly so on Wikipedia. Also, Category:Sportswomen should probably be in their to tag. Some other sports that tend to have lots of coverage of women include figure skating and gymnastics. --LauraHale (talk) 19:26, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you LauraHale. Category:Sportswomen is a subcategory of Category:Women's sports so will be covered by first line. I've created a list that we can add to add other sports. They need to be added to the Template first. I'll ask Redrose64 to assist once we have final list. What do you think of cycling, martial arts, and tennis? I've seen quite a bit of articles recently nominated for deletion. Hmlarson (talk) 19:48, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also consider tossing on roller derby, and the Paralympics as sub-projects. I'd also love to see Deaflympics as a specific task force but that area is... well, difficult. Though it would be hugely nice. It would also be nice to have regional subprojects, for Oceania, Asia, Africa, South America, the Caribbean, Europe. These are vastly under-represented geographic areas in many ways. Having lists we can get from projects of women's articles about these regions makes it easier for people to organize efforts to improve regional content, under-represented sports, etc. (Handball and field hockey and netball and roller derby are popular in some of these countries, but lack of anglophone popularity at times pushes down coverage of major non-Anglo women's sports figures outside the English speaking world.) I haven't been following things, but the I could see the tennis thing. There are issues around notability, where men and women don't have parity but the parity issues are often geographic and, well, language issues. :/ --LauraHale (talk) 12:06, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
