"Additional voices"

[edit]

I don't get why we're including content about "Additional voices". Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. We are also not IMDb and we should be focusing on noteworthy roles, not mindlessly cataloging everything that the actor did. We are here to provide an overview of our notable subjects, not microdata that is only of interest to a few people. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:36, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I also suspect that a lot of people are adding credits just because they think it sounds like Frank Welker doing the voice. Trivialist (talk) 20:55, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And on top of that, there's also just plain vandalism... Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:20, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The page really should be permanently edit protected and have pending changes enacted. Every fake credit is essentially a BLP violation. I contacted the site owner of Mr. Welker's official website years ago and was informed that Frank Welker wants nothing to do with WP. It's our duty to keep his information as accurate as possible, and the edits from the majority of IP and non-auto confirmed editors seem to be false. Doc talk 22:45, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Frankly, I don't see the point of a separate filmography page that is, at best, a bad and incomplete duplicate of his IMDb listing. If I was king of Wikipedia, I'd protect the page from edits and redirect it to Frank Welker. Trivialist (talk) 22:54, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I've found the e-mails I exchanged with Doreen Mulman, the official site's webmistress, from December of 2011 through WP's email. Here is one excerpt: "I will forward your request to him, but I have my doubts as to whether or not he'll reply back to you. He really doesn't have the time to scrutinize that huge list. And frankly, when you have had a career as long as his and have done as many shows and characters as he has, it's pretty difficult to remember them all. He has told me, time and time again, that he simply doesn't remember, when I send him fan questions about various shows or roles." In a subsequent e-mail she says, "Frank is a very private person and really doesn't care if he has a web presence. But because he and I have been friends since March of 1989, he knew he could trust me to help him with online matters." This filmography has been a problem for many, many years. I've semid the page for a year and turned on the pending changes. It seems a bit ridiculous to maintain a unique article for Welker's filmography when the entirety of the article would be based on primary sources (the films/TV shows/video games themselves). WP:PRIMARY says that we shouldn't base large portions of an article on primary sources. It's also ridiculous because Welker works so much that the list becomes all-inclusive and indiscriminate. We should be focusing on his most important works and we could absolutely condense this list to two dozen examples and merge it back to the main article. We are not IMDb. (I say again...) If you guys want to see another nightmare, take a look at Yuri Lowenthal's video game work. At least many of the examples there are sourced. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:51, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For 2018, should fix "Supernatural" to link to "Supernatural (U.S. TV series)"... currently it just links to the aforementioned generic page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:645:C200:8D20:BC99:E9E6:90B2:96EE (talk) 23:56, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
