Reports of death

[edit]

There are reports of the death of John Hopkins circulating on social media as of around 12:30pm, 1 October 2013 (AEST). There's nothing in mainstream media yet. Tim Bell (talk) 03:18, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well and truly confirmed. Sad. I met him once, lovely chap.
As for the date of death: We're currently settled on 1 October, which is reliably cited:
  • Limelight specifies the date as 1 October.
  • SMH says Tuesday (= 1 October)
  • The Age of 2 October says he died "yesterday" (= 1 October)
However, it seems to be 30 September:
  • Australian Music Centre did say 1 October but they've changed to 30 September.
  • In today's Herald Sun, the death notice presumably inserted by his family says 30 September. The identical notice appears in The Age.
So, I'm thinking the family notice trumps the early guesses by the journos, and we should change the death date to 30 September. That should please the anon IPs who've been changing it to that date but without any citations. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 23:25, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No objections, so I've made the change to 30 September 2013. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 20:45, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
