Help me!

[edit]

I'm trying to edit my boss's Wikipedia page, since it was created by an unknown user and contained some errors. I've correct the content, but would like to change the display name from "Francis Gavin" to "Francis J. Gavin", the name he uses professionally. However, when I make the change under advanced settings, it doesn't transfer. Is there anything I can do to correct this?

Hi! First and foremost, you must disclose your status as a paid editor. Second, you must make sure that any changes you make to the article are supported by reliable sources and are referenced within the article.
I will take a look at the proposed move. StrikerforceTalk 15:47, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, again! In reviewing the article, we have a bigger problem in that the entire text of the article is a copy and paste copyright violation. The article, as it currently exists, is a copy and paste of this page. StrikerforceTalk 15:53, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, ok. I was just copying the bio he uses for his professional reports. But I do see how that's a problem. Would it help to cite the article? I can also rephrase so it's not a direct copy. Thanks for your help!

At the moment, the page is tagged for speedy deletion because of the copyright violation, so, yes, you'll need to rephrase it to save it. As to the name of the article, I would refer you here as the basis for keeping the article in its current location. StrikerforceTalk 16:25, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to rephrase it. There's not too much that can be done as most of items are position titles he has held in the past, but hopefully it's acceptable. Is there any way I can follow up to see whether the flagging issue has been resolved? Should I contest the speedy deletion?

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

(Non-administrator comment) For consideration, this editor immediately created a new account and began editing the Francis Gavin article. A comment admitting the same is here. StrikerforceTalk 17:31, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(I have struck my comment above, having noted my misapplication of the above template on the new account's talk page.) StrikerforceTalk 17:37, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
