Does Mitte really need no less than 4 districts, with the ensuing amount of duplication? I'm tempted to say that for a city of 3.4 million Berlin is now severely overdistricted. (WT-en) Jpatokal 11:51, 15 Nov 2004 (EST)

The problem is, that berlin is very large, despite its 3.4 Mio inhabitants. its for instance 9 times bigger than Paris and has been growing over the centuries by absorbing little villages like Spandau or Köpenick.

That's why it makes perfect sense to use the districts, because most of them have "their own" history and are different in the appearance and lifestyle (ie. Somebody living in Köpenick would probably never go to Spandau in his lifeteime except for a very special reason).

Of course the foolish Government decided to save some money and merge some of the older districts for no other reason than that. But to distinguish between districts is needed. Some pages might be short though. (WT-en) SonarTom 09:47, 26 June 2007 (EDT)

A lot of this article should be updated, the Bodemuseum is opened since october 2006

Bode Museum (Museuminsel)

I removed this museum temporarily... does anyone know if it has completed reconstruction? This listing says it is closed until 2006, but since it's 2008, I tried to find something that confirmed the end of the construction.

Bodemuseum in Berlin
  • The Bodemuseum (Museuminsel) is closed until 2006 for renovations and usually exhibits Byzantic arts and impressive coin collection.

Thanks! (WT-en) Kaci 21:12, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

Eat and Drink

Will try to amend the eat and drink section during the next weeks. I live in Berlin Mitte and there are many great places missing. Also, some of the restaurants originally listed were not situated in Mitte (the Angkor Wat) or had already closed. Stina_m

That's some brilliant thing you are doing here, hats off!
Please do only note that we have adopted a slightly different definition of Mitte than the administrative borders for the benefit of the traveller. Parts of the administrative Tiergarten thus fall within "our" Mitte as the traveller won't really notice they are crossing the district border. I hope the description atop the article makes that clear.
You may also want to weigh in regarding other issues troubling the Berlin articles. One is the fact that we are now halfway through a district reorganization and I proposed to draw it to a conclusion in the main article's talk page. Would be brilliant if you would want to weigh in there and perhaps help out with the redistrictification.
Again, great to have you on board, I hope to be in Berlin soon and be able to take advantage of your recommendations! PrinceGloria (talk) 18:54, 11 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Cityhostel

I've taken the liberty to outcomment (make invisibe) the entry for the "Cityhostel" in the paragraph "budget", as neither our readers nor visitors of the hostels website nor the local guests are made aware of the facts 1) that the hostel-building belongs to the North Korean government, who uses it to generate foreign exchange, 2) that its operation violates UN sanctions against NK and 3) that its uncertain whether its services will be continued., , ,, --Túrelio (talk) 07:13, 6 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I think you need to be careful here. Our role is not to police listings for apparent violations of UN sanctions. If the business is illegal in Germany and gets shut down then you can remove it. If it remains in operation and people can use it then the wider geo-political considerations are irrelevant. We don't take sides. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 09:39, 6 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
