Inherited from Sanskrit बुक्क (bukka). Cognate with Sylheti ꠛꠥꠇ (buk), Assamese বুকু (buku), Odia ବୁକୁ (buku), Romani buko (liver; lung), Marathi बोका (bokā, kidney; chest), Sinhalese බොක්ක (bokka, belly​).
