গামছা
Bengali
Alternative forms
- গামুছা (gamucha)
Etymology
Inherited from Old Bengali *গৌংছা with influence from the partially related word মুছা (mucha, “to wipe”) (with extreme influence present in the above variant), from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 348: Parameter 2 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "inc-pra" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. (Sanskritized as Sanskrit अङ्गोञ्छ (aṅgoñcha)) with aphaeresis, perhaps from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀅𑀗𑁆𑀕𑀯𑀼𑀜𑁆𑀙 (*aṅgavuñcha), from earlier *𑀅𑀗𑁆𑀕𑀧𑀼𑀜𑁆𑀙 (*aṅgapuñcha, literally “body wiper”), from 𑀅𑀗𑁆𑀕 (aṅga, “limb; body”, from Sanskrit अङ्ग (aṅga)) + *𑀧𑀼𑀜𑁆𑀙 (*puñcha, “to wipe”, from a substrate, whence also পোঁছা (pō̃cha)). Cognate with Kamta আংছা (aṅsa), Odia ଅଙ୍ଗୁଛା (aṅguchā), Hindi अंगोछा (aṅgochā), Nepali अङौछो (aṅaucho), Marathi अंग्छा (aṅgchā), Gujarati અંગુછૉ (aṅguchŏ), Punjabi ਅਙ੍ਗੋਚ੍ਛਾ (aṅgocchā).
