Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀼𑀡𑁂𑀤𑀺 (suṇedi), from Sanskrit शृणोति (śṛṇoti). Cognate with Hindi सुनना (sunnā), Gujarati સુણવું (suṇvũ) and Assamese শুনা (xuna).
