From Middle Persian dmbʾwnd (dumbāwand).

Particularly: “Wikipedia gives the original interpretation as "the mountain from which smoke and ash arises", albeit without any references. In this case, the first component is from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰuHmás (“smoke”). What would the second component be? A derivative of Proto-Indo-European *bʰewg- (“to release”) (where would the -nd come from?) or something else?”
