Inherited from Middle Persian [script needed] (glwb' /⁠graw⁠/), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *grabʰ-, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰrebʰ-. Cognate with Avestan 𐬔𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬡 (garəβ, to seize), Sanskrit ग्रभ् (grabh), English grab.
