From Old Norse Auðmundr, from auðr (riches, wealth) +‎ -mundr (protector), cf. mund (protection; bride gift). Cognate with Faroese Eyðmundur, Icelandic Auðmundur, Swedish Ödmund, and English Edmund. Doublet of Edmund.
