Etymology

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *rā́ˀdīˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂roh₁dʰéyeti, from *h₂reh₁-dʰh₁- (to think; to succeed; to arrange). Cognate with Lithuanian ródyti (to show); compare also Proto-Slavic *raditi (to care about) (whence Russian раде́ть (radétʹ), Bulgarian раде́я (radéja), Serbo-Croatian ráditi), Sanskrit राध्यति (rādhyati, to succeed), Old Norse rœða (to speak).
