Historia
Después del Caso de violación en grupo de Delhi en 2012, la entonces Controladora de idiomas de la BBC Liliane Landor, la editora de la BBC Grieta de Fiona y otros periodistas, decidieron crear una serie centrada en los problemas y logros de las mujeres en la sociedad actual.[1][2][3] Sentían que muchas de las mujeres con las que se entrevistaban no conseguían la suficiente cobertura. En Marzo de 2013, BBC recibió una gran cantidad de peticiones de oyentes mujeres que pedían a la BBC que proporciona más "contenido de y sobre las mujeres."[4]
La BBC lanzó esta serie en 2013 para intentar paliar la infra-representación de las mujeres en los medios de comunicación.[5] Las mujeres que participaron en el primer programa fueron seleccionadas mediante una encuesta realizada a 26 servicios de traducción diferentes. La programación se realizo en el curso de un mes, culminando con una conferencia que tuvo lugar el 25 Octubre, en el qué 100 mujeres de todo el mundo debatieron sobre temas compartidos. Entre los temas tratados estuvieron los retos en el empleo, el feminismo , la maternidad y la religión, se examinaron tanto los retos culturales como los sociales, a los que se enfrentan en su vidad diaria.[6][7]
La serie desde entonces ha tratado muchos temas, incluyendo educación, sanidad, igualdad salarial, mutilación genital, violencia doméstica, y abuso sexual. Además se busca proporcionar a las mujeres con una plataforma para hablar de cómo mejorar el mundo y eliminar el sexsismo.Error en la cita: La etiqueta de apertura <ref>

La lista de las 100 Mujeres de la BBC en 2015 estuvo formada por muchos nombres internacionales notables, así como por mujeres poco conocidas, pero que representan a los problemas con los que las mujeres se enfrentan.[11] Las mujeres de 2015, son originarias de 51 países y no fueron necesariamente aquellas a quienes tradicionalmente habrían sido vistas como ejemplos a seguir—una mujer que padece una depresión, una mujer que defiende para acceso igualitario a las instalaciones de baño, una mujer que anima otras mujeres a no maquillarse y una nómada.[12]

2013
El 2013 se organizó una serie de la BBC de un mes de duración que tuvo lugar en octubre. Esta serie examinó la función de mujeres en el siglo XXI y culminado en un evento organizado en la aguantado en la BBC Broadcasting House (Casa de la Radiodifusión) en Londres, Reino Unido el 25 de octubre de 2013 implicando cien mujeres de todo del mundo, todas ellas han vivido diferentes experiencias vitales. Hubo un día elegido para realizar una discusión y debate que fue retransmitido en radio, televisión y on-line, en el qué las participantes dieron sus opiniones sobre aquellos asuntos a los que se suelen enfrentar las mujeres.
El acontecimiento tuvo 25 octubre 2013 donde se presentó 100 mujeres con diferentes experiencias vitales.[17]
