OutKast spend fifth week at No. 1

After Christmas comes the New Years’ hangover, especially at the record store. All of the top-10 artists on this week’s Billboard album chart saw their sales drop between 50 and 75 percent from the last frenzied week of holiday shopping. Still, fans can’t get enough of OutKast. The duo’s ”Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” held onto the top slot and marked its fifth nonconsecutive week at No. 1 since its release 15 weeks ago. (Meantime, OutKast held down the top two slots on Billboard’s singles chart with ”Hey Ya!” and ”The Way You Move.”) According to SoundScan, the double album sold 151,000 copies, down 60 percent from last week. ”The Diary of Alicia Keys” saw a similar drop to 116,000 sold (down 69 percent) but also kept its chart position at No. 2.

”NOW That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 14” saw sales slip to 112,000 but rose one notch to finish third. Also down in sales (to 103,000) but up one rung on the chart was fourth-place finisher ”The Very Best of Sheryl Crow.” No Doubt sold 99,000 copies of ”The Singles 1992-2003,” less than half last week’s numbers, but climbed three chart positions to No. 5. Climbing back into the top 10 were Jay-Z’s ”The Black Album (No. 6), Evanescence’s ”Fallen” (No. 7), and G-Unit’s ”Beg For Mercy.” Toby Keith’s ”Shock’N Y’all” dropped six spots to No. 9, pushing Ruben Studdard’s ”Soulful” down one place to No. 10.
