Lindsay Lohan isn't the only celebrity whose candid battle with past (and some not-so-past) demons is slated for primetime on the OWN network. Now, Russell Brand is sitting down with Oprah Winfrey for a frank conversation about drug addiction.

In the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman's untimely death from a drug overdose, Brand talked with Winfrey about his former struggles with heroin and life as a recovering addict in the premiere episode of Oprah Prime (formerly Oprah's Next Chapter), airing Sunday.

Sober for over a decade, Brand has become a crusader for a better public understanding of addiction as a disease. The comedian penned a tribute to his friend Amy Winehouse after her death from accidental alcohol poisoning, testified before the U.K. Parliament about decriminalizing drug addiction, and again spoke out against laws prosecuting drug users in a column written after Hoffman's death.

In his sit-down with Winfrey, Brand admits he's not the kind of person who can simply have the occasional drink or use drugs recreationally — no one who suffers from addiction can, he says, in the following clip:

Brand discusses the "seductive idea" that a substance abuser can control his habit. "If anything positive can come out of the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, it's that. That his death doesn't make sense unless you accept that addiction is an illness," he says.

Watch Brand discuss his addictive personality, which started at a young age with food and porn, in the clip below:

Oprah Prime premieres March 9 at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
