It is no secret that Ewan McGregor’s character, Renton, was hooked on heroin in the 1996 film, Trainspotting. In the film’s forthcoming sequel, T2 Trainspotting, he is still addicted, albeit to something decidedly more legal — running.

“Renton has replaced his drug addiction with endorphin addiction,” says McGregor in a new behind-the-scenes clip, which you can see exclusively above. “He’s become [a] runner.”

In the clip, McGregor also reveals where Renton has been living since the events of the first film and that, despite his athletic ways, he is a “broken” man.

Directed by Danny Boyle, and written by John Hodge, T2 Trainspotting costars Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle.

The film is released in select cinemas March 3 and goes wide on March 10.
