Emma Roberts is engaged to Wu-Tang actor Cody John

It's an American love story: Emma Roberts and Cody John are engaged!

The Scream Queens and American Horror Story star announced the news in an Instagram post Tuesday, sharing a photo of the couple embracing while showing off her glittering engagement ring.

"Putting this here before my mom tells everyone,” Roberts joked in the caption, a reference to her mother, Kelly Cunningham, debuting Roberts' 3-year-old son on social media earlier this year.

In her own Instagram Story post, Cunningham reshared the photo and wrote simply, "Congratulations."

The news also prompted plenty of well wishes from fans and friends in the comments, including Roberts' Scream Queens costar Lea Michele, who wrote, "Already planning the bachelorette!!!! So happy for you babe!!!"

Singer Aly Michalka chimed in to say, "Hahahaha oh man do I relate to this. Congrats Em!!!"

This will mark the first marriage for both Roberts, 33, and John, 34. Roberts shares a son, Rhodes, with her ex Garrett Hedlund.

Back in February, Roberts let followers know that there were no hard feelings after her mom shared the first public photo of her son. In an Instagram Story post (long since expired), she wrote, "When your mom posts your [son's] face without asking but you love them both so whatever."

Roberts and her now-fiancé have been linked since 2022, when John — a fellow actor whose screen credits include Wu-Tang: An American Saga and the CW's In the Dark — confirmed their romance with a photo of them kissing and the caption "sweet sweet."

Since going Instagram-official, the couple have frequently shared photos together, though Roberts otherwise prefers to keep her love life private.

"I never want to talk about relationships I'm in or that are ending or have ended," she told Cosmopolitan in 2019. "It's hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience."

Roberts in fact keeps much of her personal life private, as her father, Eric Roberts, recently alluded to during a conversation with Steve Kmetko on the podcast Still Here Hollywood. The Suits actor, who is also brother to Julia Roberts, admitted that he's been advised not to discuss his famous family members. 

"I love my sister, but I can't talk about her. She doesn't wanna talk about it," he said. He later added, "My daughter told me also not not to talk about her, but I stumble and do. I'm not supposed to talk about either of them. But I do."
