Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner reach settlement after highly publicized divorce proceedings

The singer and the "Game of Thrones" actress first began divorce proceedings in September 2023.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have officially reached a settlement agreement just over a year after the Jonas Brothers star filed for divorce.

In court documents filed on Sept. 6, which were later obtained by PEOPLE, a Florida judge ruled that Jonas and Turner's four-year-long marriage was "irretrievably broken." While the final terms of their settlement are confidential, the documents reportedly state that they reached an agreement that was "in the best interests of the parties and this family."

The judge also granted Jonas, 35, and Turner, 28, a waiver on the state's 20-day mandatory waiting period on their divorce, noting that the "marriage between the parties is dissolved and the parties are restored to the status of being single."

Representatives for Turner and Jonas did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.

Jonas and Turner married in 2019 after three years of dating, and share two children together. The couple bought a house together in Miami in 2022, but sold it the following year. In September 2023, Jonas filed for divorce in Miami, sparking an extended set of proceedings and public appearances that drew significant media attention.

The couple shared a joint statement on the matter the next day. "After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage," they wrote. "There are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."

Later that same month, Turner sued Jonas, claiming he had "wrongfully retained" their children. A spokesperson for Jonas said the singer was "seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father."

The musician and Game of Thrones actress ultimately came up with a short-term agreement for the children to remain in New York, and in early October, the couple reached a temporary agreement that laid out their daughters' custody through January 7.

"After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the UK," the couple said in a statement provided to EW. "We look forward to being great co-parents."

Page Six later reported that Jonas had filed to dismiss his original petition for dissolution in Miami, indicating that the couple would instead opt to settle their separation privately.

The Jonas Brothers are currently in the midst of their international tour The Tour, while Turner is set to appear in the upcoming TV series, Joan.

Speaking with British Vogue in May, Turner described the aftermath of her divorce as "the worst few days of my life," noting that she was filming Joan when the news broke and was unable to see her children. "I’m unhappy with the way everything played out, especially when it comes to my children," she said. "They’re the victims in all of this."
