Kit Harington channels Jon Snow in Game of Thrones mobile game ad

"It feels completely natural to jump back into Westeros for this game," Harington said in a statement.

Kit Harington's Game of Thrones spinoff idea centered on Jon Snow may be off the table for the foreseeable future, but he's at least channeling the character once again.

Though not dressed in Jon's Northerner attire from Westeros, a suit-clad Harington delivers the character's dialogue and gusto for a new ad promoting the mobile game Game of Thrones: Legends, the RPG puzzle that incorporates characters from across Game of Thrones lore, including some folks from the prequel series currently airing, House of the Dragon.

Walking into a bar, where he imagines all the gawking patrons as various Westerosi figures, Harington begins with one of his most famous lines: "Winter is coming."

"I'm ready to forge my own destiny, compose my strategy, refine my tactics," he continues. "I'll solve every puzzle, I'll overcome every challenge to defeat the deadliest threat we've ever faced: the Long Night."

There's even a "you know nothing, Jon Snow" joke thrown in there, thanks to a bar patron who's also playing the mobile game. "No, no, no. Don't!" Harington responds. "Don't do it."

“The creativity and care taken to create Game of Thrones: Legends is obvious and it feels completely natural to jump back into Westeros for this game,” Harington said in a statement. “This is a true love letter to the fans, of whom the franchise would be nothing without, and I’m honored to pay tribute to them in this new campaign.”

Players of Game of Thrones: Legends build and lead their own Westeros house and use strategy to assemble a team of champions, equip weapons and gear, and face foes from the Game of Thrones universe — which include the likes of Rhaenyra Targaryen (as played by Emma D'Arcy on House of the Dragon) and Arya Stark (as played by Maisie Williams on Game of Thrones). The new Harington-led campaign will run on streaming platform Max, including during new episodes of House of the Dragon, which will drop the penultimate episode of season 2 this Sunday.

This is the first time Harington is remotely revisiting the character of Jon Snow in an official capacity following the news that his spinoff series was not going to move forward. Press reported in 2022 that a Jon Snow-centric drama was in early development and originated from Harington himself. The concept took place after the events of the Game of Thrones series finale, which saw Jon, revealed to be a Targaryen, banished to live out his remaining days on the Wall after killing Daenerys (Emilia Clarke).

"At the end of the show when we find him in that cell, he's preparing to be beheaded and he wants to be. He's done," Harington previously said at the first official Game of Thrones convention in 2022. "The fact he goes to the Wall is the greatest gift and also the greatest curse. He's gotta go back up to the place with all this history and live out his life thinking about how he killed Dany, and live out his life thinking about Ygritte [played by Rose Leslie] dying in his arms, and live out his life thinking about how he hung Olly [Brenock O'Connor], and live out his life thinking about all of this trauma, and that…That's interesting."

Unfortunately, Harington confirmed in an April interview with EW earlier this year that the show was not moving forward.

"It's not happening — and not happening anytime soon anyway," he said. "We bounced some ideas around and nothing really lit us up. It just didn't. I think we don't want to do something that's not worth it. So for the time being, we're just shelving it."
