RHONY star Kelly Bensimon calls off wedding four days before ceremony over prenup agreement

Plans can change quickly. Real Housewives of New York alum Kelly Bensimon has called off her wedding to financier Scott Litner, according to PEOPLE — and the news came just four days before the ceremony was set to take place.

Bensimon revealed to PEOPLE that the reason behind the split was that Litner reportedly "refused to sign a prenuptial agreement."

"I refused to marry him. Full stop," she told the publication, which added that an insider said Bensimon is regrouping "during a difficult time."

Page Six was first to report the news on June 25. The wedding was originally set for June 29.

"He thought that I would enter this union without legal protections in place, that I would leave everything to faith," Bensimon elaborated in a statement to PEOPLE. "But I’ve worked really, really, hard as a single mother and have always made smart decisions for myself and my family, and that will continue."

Representatives for Bensimon did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for additional comment.

In an Instagram post earlier this week, Bensimon shared photos of herself and her daughters vacationing in Jamaica.

Bensimon and Litner got engaged during the July Fourth weekend last year and were planning to celebrate later this week with not one but two parties. The first would've taken place at Litner's mother's home in Boston later this week, with a bigger one to follow in the Hamptons once all friends and family were available to assemble.

"When I first met him, I didn’t even say anything. I was speechless — which is not like me, I always have something to say," Bensimon told PEOPLE last year about Litner. "But he blew me away. He’s just a really special human."

Bensimon was previously married to photographer Gilles Bensimon, with whom she shares daughters Sea and Teddy. Litner has been married twice before and has children of his own.
