Wiz Khalifa apologizes for 'lighting up' onstage after Romania drug arrest: 'I didn't mean any disrespect'

"I’ll be back soon,” the rapper wrote on X. “But without a big ass joint next time.”

Wiz Khalifa is making amends after a run-in with Romanian law enforcement.

The “Black and Yellow” rapper, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, was arrested over the weekend for drug possession, per French news agency Agence France Presse (AFP). Khalifa was headlining the "Beach, Please!" festival in Costinesti, Romania on Saturday night, when authorities allegedly found cannabis, which is illegal for recreational use in Romania, in his possession.

Videos posted on social media show the rapper being escorted from the venue by Romanian authorities. One clip sees Khalifa asking the officers “not to surround” him, adding, “I’m not going nowhere.”

Khalifa was quick to address the arrest the following day on social media.

"Last nights show was amazing,” he wrote on X Sunday afternoon local time. “I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”

A translated press release from the Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors organization DIICOT alleges that Khalifa possessed “over 18 grams of cannabis and consumed (onstage) another amount of cannabis under the shape of a craft cigarette.”

AFP reports that the rapper was charged with illegal drug possession, but was later released from custody.

Representatives for Khalifa did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.

Khalifa has long established recreational drug use as part of his brand. Outside of penning lyrics about smoking, the rapper last year admitted that he was  "stoned AF" while throwing the first pitch out at a baseball game. He also recently joked about being high while attending his son’s parent-teacher conferences, during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.

"Hell yeah I'm pulling up stoned. They expect it," Khalifa told host Alex Cooper. "They know what's up. It's not like back in the day [where] you're considered a bad parent if you smoke weed.”

He quipped, “I'm pretty sure my son smells like weed. I don't know because I can't smell it but I'm pretty sure he smells like pot."
