The importance of the feelings associated with the home is important to the residents, but research information related to the topic has been quite scarce. When talking about the future of housing, the conversation often turns to such technical themes as energy efficiency, smart housing or planning. However, for people, the spirit of the home is much more important than the technology related to the home.
Through this book and our research project, we are thinking about how the future of housing should be viewed from a resident-centered perspective. What does resident-centeredness mean for technological and ecological housing innovations? What do the aging of the population and the diversification of services mean in the housing of the future more broadly? And can we conclude from the seeds of communality in recent times that communality is becoming more common and taking on new forms?
Based on our research interviews, we have come to understand housing as a layered phenomenon, which is repeated in the structure of this book. The layers are named infrastructure, technology, emotion, culture and service layer. In addition, we discuss the future of ownership.
