With a subscriber base of over 15,000 and calling available in 84 countries, it’s hard to see Aircall as anything but a success. Much of the company’s value comes from its ease of use and cost-effectiveness. 

Aircall is also a fairly reliable provider with a 99.95% service-level agreement (SLA) for uptime. While it’s not as high as some of the bigger names, this does ensure that service would only be potentially unavailable for about four hours in a year. Aircall is a provider that’s good for companies looking for built-in calling features. While the provider has features locked into specific tiers, there are still many call routing and call management features that are available even within the first plan. This means that, for about $40 per month, per license, when paying monthly, you get unlimited calling within the U.S. and Canada, more than 100 integrations, IVR, and call recording.  This is relatively extensive, especially when comparing Aircall to other virtual phone systems. In most cases, these start with a first-tier plan that only encompasses domestic calling. Features, such as the aforementioned IVR, usually come in within the higher plan tiers. With Aircall, most small businesses and solopreneurs can hit the ground running with these features and even have access to more niche options, such as analytics data, custom music, and shared call inboxes.
As with many other virtual phone systems with specializations in cloud telephony, Aircall isn’t a good option for companies trying to beef up their office communications. While calling features are strong, you won’t find video conferencing, team chat, or even internet faxing (e-fax) with Aircall.   For those looking for full-fledged communications stacks, you’ll need a suite of third-party solutions, such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Slack, to open additional inroads to customers, colleagues, or agents. Even with these additional services, there will be no unified communications (UC) experience where you can initiate multiple channels of contact within a single application.

Aircall’s VoIP service, which has a seven-day trial, is available in three tiers: Essentials, Professional, and Custom. It’s important to note that while Aircall charges a monthly fee per license, with an option for an annual discount, three licenses are required at minimum. This means that, on a per-month basis, you’ll be paying at least $120 for a monthly plan or $1,080 per year

The best plan tier for small businesses is the Essentials plan. With this base-level plan, you get 100 integrations with popular third-party software solutions. In addition to this, API access is available so that information technology (IT) personnel can build software connections with other third-party solutions. This is very useful for small businesses looking for a more united work experience as you can do things that include making calls through Aircall within the user interface (UI) of your favorite customer resource management (CRM) app.  

Additionally, and perhaps most crucially, Aircall is one of the few virtual phone providers with IVR by default. IVR is a call management system that’s a more developed version of an auto attendant. With one, rather than simply forwarding calls to the relevant parties, your customers can engage in self-service. With voice alone, they can perform automated tasks, such as bill pay and appointment setting. Each business is also provided a single local or toll-free number with this plan, and additional numbers are only $6 per month.

Aircall, at its center, is a VoIP-powered business phone system designed for calling and texting, but there’s also significant technology inside the provider that expands well past cloud telephony. Let’s look at a few additional services offered by Aircall: 

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) call summaries: For every call, Aircall’s AI-generated call summaries use machine learning to break down what was said in the conversation. 
  • Transcript text search: In addition to summaries, Aircall’s AI transcribes calls and voicemails. Once transcribed, text is searchable in the Conversation Center. 
  • Sentiment analysis: Sentiment analysis helps determine how customers perceive a business, breaking down conversations into positive, neutral, or negative sentiments. 
  • Call center software: For larger call volumes, Aircall incorporates a contact center solution. This provides call monitoring, call routing, after-call work, and analytics to bolster metrics, such as first-call resolution (FCR).

Fortunately, Aircall ticks these boxes with an intuitive UI that sets up in seconds. It’s also very connectable via its integration tools and its API access, so when you need a third-party solution, most likely, you’ll find the process simple. Toward simplicity, Aircall’s AI features help businesses perform tasks, such as sentiment analysis and transcript generation.  

Getting in contact with Aircall is also relatively simple with phone, chat, and ticket-based support systems in place. Aircall’s support is also available via chat and phone for those without an account, but ticketing is only available for Aircall users. Aircall’s support via chat is available Mondays through Fridays 24/5. When conversing through chat as a nonsubscriber, you’re presented with an AI-based connection system that asks you to provide your name, email, company name, and phone number. Once you’re through that, a flesh-and-blood agent answers your questions. 

Is Aircall secure? 

Like many reliable VoIP providers, Aircall uses both transport layer security (TLS) and AES-256 encryption. This protects your company’s communication data both while at rest on local and provider servers, and when it’s in transit. In addition to these protections, Aircall also uses single sign-on (SSO) capabilities via Google sign-in and security assertion markup language (SAML) authentication. These allow users to sign in to multiple software solutions using only a single set of credentials.

Overall, Aircall is a fairly well-reviewed VoIP provider with most third-party review sites granting it greater than four-star ratings. Most users cite that the service is reliable and that customer service is very responsive and willing to go the extra mile for customers. Out of the hundreds of reviews we saw, we also noticed a substantial appreciation of the call quality on Aircall, but there were some complaints about the frequent update cadence, issues pertaining to Bluetooth devices, and problems with call recordings longer than one hour.
