Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters Thursday that Hendrickson is considered week-to-week due to a chest bruise, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports. Hendrickson is coming off the most productive season of his career, finishing 2023 with 43 tackles (28 solo), including a career-high 17.5 sacks, along with three passes defended and three forced fumbles across 17 regular-season games. He requested a trade in April after not receiving a long-term extension from the Bengals, but did not hold out of offseason workouts and is participating in training camp. His chest injury could keep him out of the Bengals' first preseason game against the Buccaneers on Aug. 10, but he could suit up against the Bears on Aug. 17.
Burton exited Thursday's practice early after having his foot examined, Jason Hoffman of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Per Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com, Burton suffered only an "ankle tweak" and his exit from practice was precautionary. Once the 2024 third-rounder returns to the field, he'll continue to compete with Andrei Iosivas, Trenton Irwin and Charlie Jones for slotting behind top WRs Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Sample (knee) was carted off the field during practice Thursday, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Sample was seen using a scooter with his left knee on the pad in the locker room after practice. It's not clear what injury he may have suffered or the severity, but the use of a scooter would indicate it's likely not a day-to-day injury.
Hubbard, who injured his knee during practice Sunday, is considered week-to-week according to head coach Zac Taylor, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Hubbard was carted off the field when the injury occurred, but it appears the situation is less dire than it originally seemed. The Bengals will likely be cautious with the 29-year-old, who's played a prominent role in their defense by recording at least 6.0 sacks in each of the last three seasons.
Coach Zac Taylor noted Thursday that for now the plan is for Burrow and other starters to play in the Bengals' first preseason game against Buccaneers on Aug. 10, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Burrow's looming participation in the contest hinges on everything going according to plan in the meantime, but it does appear that as long as the QB avoids any setbacks with his wrist, the QB is trending toward seeing the field versus Tampa Bay. If that does happen, we'd expect Burrow's reps to be limited before he turns things over to some combo of fellow signal-callers Jake Browning, Logan Woodside and Rocky Lombardi.
Anderson (knee) is healthy again, John Sheeran of AZ Sports reports. Anderson has fully recovered from a torn ACL he suffered during Week 8 of last season. The 2022 fifth-round pick will now spend the remainder of the summer competing for a roster spot, where he can add value both as a reserve defender and as a special teamer.
Hubbard, who injured his knee during Sunday's practice, received good test results and should be okay, Chris Roling of USA Today reports. Hubbard left Sunday's practice in a cart, but it appears that he avoided what could have been a serious injury. It's unclear when Hubbard is expected to return to the field, but once the 29-year-old is healthy again, he's expected to line up alongside Trey Hendrickson and continue rushing the passer at a high level for the Bengals' defense in 2024.
Chase (contract) isn't practicing Monday and isn't likely to practice Tuesday, James Rapien of SI.com reports. Chase continues to "hold in" due to his desire for a new contract, watching from the sidelines rather than participating. He's coming up on a full week of missed practices, and it's hard to get a good read on the situation given that he's not discussing it with media (or even acknowledging that his absence is contract-related). Bengals owner Mike Brown said last week that it might take a while to finalize an extension, perhaps setting the table for Chase to remain absent from practice into August. The Bengals typically have avoided extensions with players that have multiple years remaining on rookie contracts, but Chase would be a sensible exception in light of three straight 1,000-yard seasons to open his career. He's currently under contract through 2025 via the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.
