Muhammad signed a contract with the Cowboys on Thursday, Josh Sanchez of SI.com reports. Muhammad was one of multiple players given a workout Thursday as Dallas looked to bolster their pass rush depth after Sam Williams tore his ACL on Saturday. The former last saw NFL action in 2022 with the Bears, when he recorded 29 combined tackles and a sack on 585 defensive snaps.
Diggs told reporters Wednesday that he's fully past the torn ACL that he sustained in September of 2023, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Diggs was activated off Dallas' active/PUP list Tuesday and after his comments regarding the state of his knee Wednesday, it appears he's moved past last year's ACL injury. The Alabama product also noted that the Cowboys are planning on working him back slowly, as he's such an important part of the team's defense. Diggs posted 111 tackles and 35 passes defended, including 14 interceptions from 2021-2022. He'll return to a Cowboys defense that already ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in interceptions (17) last season.
Kendricks missed Wednesday's practice and is considered day-to-day with a back injury, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. Kendricks, who signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys in March, is now in jeopardy of missing some time with a back issue. It appears that the 32-year-old's absence won't be extensive, but both Markquese Bell and Damien Wilson are expected to see increased reps with the Cowboys' first-team defense as Kendricks works back from injury.
Guyton took reps as the first-team left tackle in the Cowboys' first padded practice Tuesday and shut down Micah Parsons when the two were lined up against each other, Nick Harris of the team's website reports. Selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2024 Draft, Guyton has some massive cleats to fill as he attempts to replace future Hall of Famer Tyron Smith at left tackle, but so far in camp the Oklahoma product looks ready for the challenge. The Dallas offensive line has long been a strength for the club, and while Guyton might have some rookie growing pains, it appears the transition on Dak Prescott's blind side could be relatively seamless.
Kneeland is the top candidate to take on a bigger role in the Cowboys' pass-rush rotation with Sam Williams (knee) out for the season, Patrik Walker of the team's website reports. "I've got to step up. I've gotta be ready, that much more, and take all of it seriously. ... I've got to step it up a notch," Kneeland said Tuesday. "It's still the same mindset, helping the team out as much as possible, but now I know there's more on my back." A second-round pick in the 2024 Draft, Kneeland didn't produce big numbers in college at Western Michigan but has a strong athletic profile that should allow him to handle snaps both inside as a 3-technique and on the edge of the defensive line. Williams' injury could push the rookie to the outside more than originally expected, however. Kneeland could wind up as a better run-stopper than pass rusher, but he has a couple of excellent mentors in DeMarcus Lawrence and assistant coach Greg Ellis, who recorded 84.0 sacks in a 12-year career spent mainly in Dallas.
Ball has now recovered from a hip injury, Mike Crum of USA Today reports. Ball is now fully healthy after a hip injury held him out of the entirety of the 2023 campaign. The 2021 fourth-round pick should be slated to backup Zack Martin at right guard.
Hendershot (ankle) was seen participating in 7-on-7 drills at practice Friday, Nick Harris and Patrik Walker of the Cowboys' official site reports. Hendershot missed nine regular-season games in 2023 due to a lingering ankle injury, and he opted to undergo surgery in February. The third-year tight end out of Indiana appears to have fully recovered from the procedure, and he looks to be competing with John Stephens for the No. 3 tight end role behind Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker.
Diggs (knee) was reinstated from the active/PUP list by the Cowboys on Tuesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Diggs will be worked into practice "smartly" moving forward according to head coach Mike McCarthy. The cornerback is making his return to practice for the first time since suffering a torn ACL in his left knee in September. Diggs will look to build up his workload over the coming weeks, while he seems unlikely to play any substantial amount of time, if any time at all, this preseason.
