The Saints signed Callaway to a contract Thursday. The move comes after the Saints waived tight end Tommy Hudson (undisclosed) with an injury designation. Callaway spent the first four years of his career in New Orleans, starting in 2020. His best season came in 2021, when he posted 46 catches for 698 yards and six touchdowns across 17 regular-season games. Callaway signed with the Steelers in January after appearing in just three games in 2023, but he was let go by Pittsburgh on Tuesday. With Equanimeous St. Brown dealing with a hamstring injury, Callaway has the opportunity to earn a spot as a depth wide receiver behind Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Cedrick Wilson.

Marquez Callaway : Reconnects with New Orleans
Mason Tipton : Making waves in camp
Tipton has drawn positive reviews from the New Orleans coaching staff for his performance during the team's early training camp practices, John DeShazier of the Saints' official site reports. "I think he's got the skill set," head coach Dennis Allen said of Tipton. "He's a smaller player, but he's got some real good quickness and he's a savvy route runner. He's got some football awareness, and so I think he understands kind of how to play the position." An undrafted rookie out of Yale, Tipton has put his 4.33-second 40-yard dash speed on frequent display in camp, with DeShazier noting that the receiver turned in one of the highlights of practice Monday with a long touchdown catch down the sideline. Though Tipton already looks like a downfield threat, the 5-foot-11, 187-pound wideout will still need to show that his quickness can translate to underneath routes if he wants to separate himself from the rest of his competition for a roster spot. If Tipton continues to shine in preseason contests and earns his way onto the roster, he could push for the third spot in a receiver group that lacks much in the way of quality depth behind starters Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.
Chris Olave : Returns to practice
Olave practiced Wednesday after exiting early during Tuesday's session with an apparent hip injury, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Olave seems to have dealt with more of a bump or bruise than a real injury, given that he was back on the practice field less than 24 hours later. He's locked in as the No. 1 receiver for quarterback Derek Carr and new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Volume shouldn't be an issue, as Olave and running back Alvin Kamara are the only players on the Saints roster that have ever drawn more than 75 targets in an NFL season.
Demario Davis : Dealing with hamstring issue
Davis sustained a hamstring injury and didn't participate in team drills during Wednesday's practice, Matthew Paras of NOLA.com reports. Davis, who has made an All-Pro team in each of his last five seasons, appears to have suffered a hamstring injury that could sideline him for the immediate future. The Saints will likely be cautious with Davis' injury, which makes sense considering how crucial he is to the team's defensive success. Once Davis returns to the field, he's expected to remain one of the most impactful inside linebackers in the NFL.
Juwan Johnson : Spotted running
Johnson (foot) ran on a side field Wednesday, Jeff Nowak of WWLAMN reports. This is the latest sign of progress, with Johnson apparently upping the intensity of his workouts after reporters spotted him jogging Wednesday. It's unclear if he'll be ready by Week 1, but the quick return to physical activity after mid-June surgery at least suggests his foot injury was relatively minor and not something more serious like a Jones fracture.
Equanimeous St. Brown : Dealing with hamstring injury
Head coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday that St. Brown missed practice due to a hamstring injury, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. St. Brown signed with the Saints in April after spending the last two seasons with the Bears. He missed 10 regular-season games in 2023 due to separate hamstring and pectoral injuries, and he finished the season with five catches for 62 yards on six targets. St. Brown is battling Cedrick Wilson and A.T. Perry for the No. 3 wide receiver spot behind Chris Olave (hip) and Rashid Shaheed.
A.T. Perry : Slow start to camp
Coach Dennis Allen said the Saints are still waiting on Perry to step up and make some plays this summer, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. Allen's assessment was less than glowing, to put it politely. He said Perry has been "fine" during training camp and is "talented enough to make the team" but needs to show it more often on the practice field. There's been some thought Perry could step in as a regular starter for the receiver-needy Saints after his late-season cameo as a rookie in 2023, but Allen's comments make it sound like he's fighting for a roster spot. Cedrick Wilson, Equanimeous St. Brown, Bub Means and Mason Tipton are the other main candidates for snaps behind starters Chris Olave (hip) and Rashid Shaheed.
Chris Olave : Exits practice with hip injury
Olave left Tuesday's practice with an apparent hip injury, Jeff Nowak of WWL Radio reports. Olave didn't return to practice afterward, which doesn't mean much given that his injury occurred at the end of the session. He's locked in as the top receiver in New Orleans, where growth for the passing game depends not only on Olave's development but also a better and healthier season from quarterback Derek Carr and potential scheme improvement under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Olave and running back Alvin Kamara are the only players on the roster that have drawn more than 75 targets in an NFL season.
