Falls, Amherst battle in 2-2 draw

Olmsted Falls and Amherst Steele both entered the evening competing for the top spot in the Southwestern Conference. The good news for the many fans who attended this clash on the pitch - they got to see an exciting match that proved why these two sides are atop the SWC. And although both teams left tonight locked at the top of their conference just as entered the evening, they each walked away with respect for the level of play the SWC can bring.

In what was a tense and physical game, the first half remained scoreless. Senior keeper Mackenzie Simon was relentless in defense of her goal with saves on numerous breakaway, shots on net.

The second half began with host Amherst able to post the first goal by a shot in the 43rd minute. Sophomore Jordan Fusco countered for the Bulldogs with a shot to goal with an assist from senior Lauren Francescone to being the match even at 1-1.

Amherst responded minutes later with a shot from a goal-box scrum in the 74' to push the Comets ahead 2-1.

With time winding down and the Bulldog's undefeated season in the balance, senior Ashley Sandru received a pass from fellow senior Mia Colozza and buried a goal to tie the game in the 77th minute.

Falls made a final attempt to score with Jordan Fusco penetrating the Amherst defense with seconds left on the clock, but the Comets were able to hold the Bulldogs with the game ending 2-2.

The Olmsted Falls Girls Soccer team remains undefeated at 7-0-1. They face top-ranked Twinsburg on Saturday at Home.
