CLEVELAND, Ohio — A handful of area boys high school basketball teams were slated for the annual Flyin' to the Hoop showcase near Dayton for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.
One did not make it down, and several matchups were canceled or postponed by the weekend snowstorm.
St. Vincent-St. Mary and Lorain, the top two teams in the cleveland.com Top 25, were idle last week because of the conditions. Brush — a Flyin' to the Hoop cancellation because of the snow — suffered its first loss, yet picked up a vital conference victory and has another big week ahead.
In fact, Brush will host its first showcase on Sunday with six games. Four ranked teams will be there, plus a few big-name prep schools.
Until then, a big week is ahead for a team such as Warrensville Heights. The Tigers face STVM and Lorain, while No. 4 Villa Angela-St. Joseph travels Friday to Akron and will face No. 7 Archbishop Hoban in a rematch of their overtime thriller from earlier this season.
