Last week, I attended the 34th Annual RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) Marquette County Volunteer Celebration to honor the 150+ senior volunteers who donate their time and talents across the county. Awards were given for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of service; last year alone, dedicated volunteers gave over 19,000 hours to our community.

Thank you to everyone who gives their time to better the lives of those around them.

Great pictures, Representative Hill! We loved having you there and your appreciation of the volunteers!

Last week, I attended the quarterly U.P. County Road Association meeting in Baraga to discuss their legislative priorities with leadership. I'm grateful for this opportunity because, without our Road Commissions, we couldn't comfortably and safely navigate the challenges of our U.P. weather. ... See MoreSee Less

Always a good meeting. Good people that care. Lots of plaid engineer shirts.

It was great chatting with State Representative Kristian Grant, chair of the Housing Subcommittee, to learn more about the housing needs across the state and highlight the needs of our region to ensure the U.P. has a seat at the table. ... See MoreSee Less

I was joined by Chocolay Township Fire Chief Lee Gould for the House 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony today. Lee also serves as the Fire Marshal for Northern Michigan University, where he is responsible for vital emergency planning. We came together in front of the Capitol to honor the lives lost on and during the aftermath of the terrorist attack on 9/11 and the first responders we've lost here in Michigan over the past year. ... I enjoyed chatting with engineers at the MichBio Mixer at Blackrocks Brewery and learning more about the medical devices they're designing and manufacturing in the Marquette region; what amazing and life-saving work! ... See MoreSee Less

I enjoyed touring the Slate River Preserve in Baraga County with the Nature Conservancy. It's incredible how much work goes into maintaining our forests, ensuring the natural resources of the UP will maintain their value for generations to come. Our townships benefit from this conservation effort through the taxes paid by the Nature Conservancy. It is a win-win for all who call our region home! ... See MoreSee Less
