I was honored to be joined by Warren Firefighter Joe Schehr, President of the Warren Fire Fighters Union Local 1383, and other first responders and law enforcement officers today as we came together to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and honor the lives lost 23 years ago.

We reflect on the bravery of first responders, the resilience of our nation, and the unity that emerged in the face of tragedy. Let’s continue to strive for peace and solidarity as we move forward together.

🍎🥧 It's Apple Pie Week! I had the pleasure of joining the seniors at the local senior center in St. Clair Shores where I helped peel and cored apples for an upcoming bake sale, which helps to raise funds for their senior meal program.

As the leaves turn golden and the air gets crisp, there's nothing better than enjoying a slice of warm apple pie made with Michigan’s finest apples. Whether you're visiting a local orchard or baking at home, fall is the perfect time to savor these delicious seasonal flavors. 🍂

I love you

If you represent northeast Detroit and Warren why are you always in St. Clair shores? It's ridiculously hard to find information about who is in control of what. Just like your sisters ponzi scheme. You know, when they took one of your houses to pay back your victims.

My colleagues and I passed a balanced budget that delivers extra funding to Double Up Food Bucks, making groceries more affordable for Michigan families struggling to get food on the table. If you shop for groceries with a SNAP/Michigan Bridge Card, this essential food security program allows you to double your benefits when you purchase fresh, Michigan-grown fruits and veggies.

I attended the annual Air & Spaces Air Force Association picnic at Selfridge Air National Guard Base with Colonel David Spehar and fellow colleague State Representative Denise Mentzer today.

It was great to hear firsthand about the economic impact the base continues to provide to Macomb County, and to discuss how we can continue to support critical infrastructure initiatives that will improve our state and country’s defense capabilities.

Exciting news for our teachers and classrooms!

As your State Representative for the 13th House District, I am thrilled to share some incredible news about the 2025 📚 School Budget, which includes the following investments:

$133 million for student mental health and school safety
$200 million for universally-free breakfast and lunch
$130 million for free pre-K to every 4 year old
$75 million for before and after school programming
$65 million for childcare and childcare workers
$52 million for tuition-free college for adult learners

Our schools are receiving a significant boost in funding, which means more resources, better support, and enhanced learning environments for our students and teachers. This increase in funding will go a long way in ensuring our educators have the tools they need to inspire and educate the next generation:

Center Line Public Schools:
$1,162,712 budget, $462 per pupil increase

Detroit Community School District:
$25,230,358 budget, $525 per pupil increase

Eastpointe Community Schools:
$761,669 budget, $347 per pupil increase

Van Dyke Public Schools:

Warren Consolidated Schools
$6,391,572 budget, $505 per pupil increase

Warren Woods Public Schools:
$1,470,525 budget, $475 per pupil increase.

Working for the residents of the 13th House District, I remain committed to prioritizing education and ensuring our children receive the quality education they deserve. Together, we are building a brighter future for our community.

Thank you for your continued support, and let's keep working together to make a difference! 💪💙

Today I joined Governor Gretchen Whitmer and my legislative colleagues for the signing of Senate Bill 747, the FY25 budget ominus bill for fiscal year 2024-2025.

I am proud to have voted to pass a budget that invests in safeguarding our environment, provides a pathway to higher education for future generations, uplifts our hometowns and improves our infrastructure.

The residents in the 13th District deserve accessible roads and water infrastructure that keeps our families healthy and safe. This budget brings critical resources back home, while prioritizing road repair and ensures that we have access to clean water.

The FY25 budget totals $82.5 billion, including a general fund total of $15 billion and a school aid budget total of $19 billion. It includes several items that will directly benefit our communities:

✅ $75 million dedicated to a new revenue sharing trust fund that supports local governments, first responders, transportation, and water infrastructure, as well as placemaking and recreation opportunities for residents

✅ $52 million to continue Michigan Reconnect, tuition-free college for adult learners 25 and older

✅ Expansion of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship with the Michigan Guarantee to ensure every Michigan high school graduate can receive an associate degree or skilled certificate tuition-free at a community college, saving more than 18,000 students up to $4,820 on tuition each year.

✅ $6.6 million to Roseville for the 13 Mile Road water pump station and roadway rehabilitation

✅ $2.5 million to Warren for Mound Road reconstruction between I-696 and 8 Mile Road

✅ $1 million for the City of Warren's Parks and Recreation

..and so much more for our local communities! This budget focuses on strategic, targeted investments that improves the lives of people and hometowns across Michigan without raising taxes.

Tonight we stood together in solidarity remembering the victims and loved ones who were tragically impacted by the senseless act of gun violence recently in northeast Detroit.

Our thoughts and prayers are not enough.

Gun violence is hitting too close to our homes, invading our neighborhoods, our celebrations, our lives. It is a devastating reminder that we cannot afford to stand by and wait for change—we must be the change.

As State Representative, I will do everything in my power to ensure that we continue to pass meaningful legislation to address gun violence, invest in community programs, and ensure our neighborhoods are places where our children can play and grow without fear.

I’ll work with anyone, together with law enforcement, local leaders, and our residents to find and implement solutions that will help to protect our neighborhoods.

Each of us has a role to play in this fight. Whether it's volunteering, educating others, or simply having the courage to speak up, we must all do our part.

Tomorrow, let our partnership be a symbol of our hope, determination, and an unwavering commitment to a future free from gun violence. We owe it to the victims, their loved ones, and our neighbors to pledge to turn our grief into action, to transform our pain into progress.

Mai, Thank you for your leadership on comforting and caring for our community rocked by gun violence during a block party intended to be a peaceful celebration of community. It’s time thoughts become action and prayers become policy. Michigan has made progress yet this summer has shown us there is still so much work to do!

I’ll work with anyone, together with law enforcement, local leaders, and our residents to find and implement solutions that will help to protect our neighborhoods.

Each of us has a role to play in this fight. Whether its volunteering, educating others, or simply having the courage to speak up, we must all do our part.

Tomorrow, let our partnership be a symbol of our hope, determination, and an unwavering commitment to a future free from gun violence. We owe it to the victims, their loved ones, and our neighbors to pledge to turn our grief into action, to transform our pain into progress.Image attachment
