  • 🔔 The Strategic Shift at the Syria-Israel Border and Iran’s Growing Influence In an podcast published by ynet, Dr. Ely Karmon, Senior Researcher at the International Institute for Counter Terrorism (ICT), provides insight on the evolving dynamics at the Syria-Israel border and the increasing influence of Iran in the region. The podcast emphasizes, "Syria, torn and shattered after years of civil war, has become a bloody arena for the interests and struggles of global powers (the U.S., Russia, and China) and regional powers (Iran and Turkey). The war in Gaza and the campaign against Hezbollah have somewhat overshadowed what has been happening for years on the Syria-Israel border, which effectively became, years ago, a border controlled by Iran through the Revolutionary Guards and thousands of Iranian militia members stationed in the southern Syrian Golan Heights." • 🔔 “Don’t underestimate Hezbollah; the lack of response does not stem from hesitation." In an article published in Walla, Prof. Boaz Ganor, President of Reichman University and Founder of the International Institute for Counter Terrorism (ICT), discusses the strategic implications of Hezbollah's potential response to recent events, the broader risks of a multi-front war involving Iran, and Israel's readiness for such conflicts. Prof. Ganor emphasizes, “History has shown that when Israel executed a targeted killing on Hezbollah’s Secretary General Abbas al-Musawi in 1992, Hezbollah’s revenge came in the form of the bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires a month later. I have learned not to underestimate Hezbollah, therefore, I wouldn’t comfortably relax and say that the event is behind us. I am convinced they will try to act against Israel, but perhaps they are still deliberating on when and where. This reminds me of what Hitchcock once said: ‘There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it.’ Hassan Nasrallah is an arch-terrorist who understands this.” The threat of a multi-front war is not merely theoretical; it's a tangible and immediate concern. Israel must prepare for an unprecedented scenario where simultaneous attacks from multiple fronts, coordinated by Iran, could challenge our defense capabilities in ways we have never encountered before.” For the full article: https://lnkd.in/dtTFrn9X #Hezbollah #IsraelSecurity #CounterTerrorism #MiddleEastConflict #StrategicStudies

  • 🌐 Understanding the Critical Role of the United States in Israel’s Security and Diplomacy In an interview with N12 News Israel, Dr. Liram Koblentz-Stenzler, Senior Researcher and Head of the Antisemitism and Far-Right Extremism Desk at the International Institute for Counter Terrorism (ICT), sheds light on the indispensable role of the United States in supporting Israel during the recent escalation of its northern border and in response to the targeted killings of Hezbollah's and Hama's military leaders: When asked about "the importance of the United States standing by Israel in these days, which is very critical because it is also something that can influence the Iranian response: How do they perceive the United States standing by us now as we are not necessarily at the peak of relations with them, right?" Dr. Kobletz-Stenzler responded: "This is part of Israel’s preparation and the responses we see from the Israeli side. We constantly need to measure what will happen in the United States. The United States serves several crucial roles. First, we need them for security reasons: we rely on their funding for weapons systems and their assistance in transporting these systems. Additionally, we need them diplomatically, as the United States vetoes certain Security Council decisions on our behalf. We must also remember that the United States is currently in an election campaign. One positive aspect is that if Biden remains president and is essentially out of the race, he is somewhat freer to support Israel, which is beneficial for us. However, we need to understand that the United States also represents the American public. The American public is highly critical of Israel, scrutinizing every action we take. This is evident in the responses and what Israel does or does not take responsibility for. Even here, we can see the signals directed towards the American side. Therefore, it is crucial to recognize how much the United States controls the arena and how much we need them in the coalition for more UAV nights, as we have seen." #Israel #UnitedStates #Security #Diplomacy #Geopolitics #MiddleEast

  • In an interview on the Israel Defense Forces's Radio Station, GLZ Radio, Dr. Liram Koblentz-Stenzler, Senior Researcher and Head of the Antisemitism and Far-Right Extremism Desk at the International Institute for Counter Terrorism (ICT), discusses the recent targeted killings of the military leaders of the terror organizations, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Iran, Fakur Shukr and Ismail Haniyeh. When asked the question, "How much will this elimination, which Israel takes responsibility for and officially announces, change the cards in the long term? Does it shuffle the cards?" Dr. Koblentz-Stenzler emphasizes, "That’s always the issue because, in the end, we say there is no person without a replacement. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, as we saw with the targeted killings of Abbas Musawi and the rise of Nasrallah, or the current targeted killings. The issue is how quickly the replacement steps into the shoes of that person and how knowledgeable the replacement is about everything that person did. Alternatively, they might need to divide the roles of that person among many people. Instead of one person knowing everything, they need to start dividing it among many. So, in my opinion, at least in the short term, it can affect functioning. Again, of course, in the long term, there will be a replacement or several replacements."

  • 🔔Security Situation in Northern Israel and the Implications of Recent Targeted Killings In a recent Israel Hayom ישראל היום article, Dr. Ely Karmon, a senior researcher from the International Institute for Counter Terrorism (ICT), shared insights into northern Israel’s security situation. He discussed the massacre of 12 Druze children in Majdal Shams by Hezbollah, which followed months of unprovoked attacks. Despite international concerns, no significant steps were taken to stop Hezbollah’s aggression. Israel responded by executing a targeted killing of Fuad Shukr, a top Hezbollah figure, in Beirut. Dr. Karmon suggests that a covert operation would have been better and that a significant attack on Hezbollah’s military sites would have been more impactful. He also notes that the targeted killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran adds to the regional tension. Stay updated on these critical developments. 🌍 Israel’s Strategic Strike on the Houthis: Regional Implications Recent events in the Middle East resemble a multiplayer game with various local, regional, and international players. Every action prompts reactions from all involved. Israel’s attack on the Houthis is highly significant. Surrounding players like Hamas, Hezbollah, and Shia militias watch closely as Israeli deterrence is being rebuilt. According to expert insights from Dr. Eitan Azani, Acting Director of the International Institute for Counter Terrorism (ICT), Iran, while claiming non-involvement, continues to supply weapons to the Houthis and other proxies, avoiding direct conflict. Hezbollah’s increased activity is a response to Israeli strikes in Lebanon. One of Israel’s main targets was the Lebanese arena, aiming to shape public opinion and pressure Hezbollah. Global players, including Egypt and Western nations, observe silently, implying agreement. With the Houthis threatening to respond, the region will soon see if it heads towards escalation or a restrained conflict.
