NovaFarms: A thread that unites taste and health. Food consumed at a young age can leave a lasting impact on our lives. Mr Balaji's first taste of #noodles stayed with him forever. It was an accidental surprise from his mother after she mistook noodles for #vermicelli. Mesmerised by the taste, he became a fan of #noodles and waited for days when his mother prepared them. After working in various sectors worldwide with diverse teams, Mr Balaji returned home to start a business. He had multiple business ideas. During his research on Tamil Nadu's crops, Mr Balaji discovered the benefits of #millets, a healthy #alternative to rice. He switched to a #milletbaseddiet, which led to significant health improvements. The global appeal of the #InternationalYearOfMillets affirmed his call to a new adventure. Inspired, he began sourcing high-quality millets from native #farmers and started a company focused on producing millet-based noodles and #pasta products. When asked how he chose noodles as his product, he credited his #childhood experience with noodles. Thus, NovaFarms came into being. He expanded his product line to include #GirCow ghee, known for its high #protein and #lowcholesterol, and #ceyloncinnamon powder, the healthiest available on the market. His future goal is to establish a live millet kitchen, offering #healthyfood at reasonable prices. He considers his enterprise to be a well-being brand. Mr. Balaji credits FaMeTN for playing a pivotal role in his export journey. The Additional Commissioner of Industries and Commerce, Tmt Siva Soundaravalli IAS, shared her insights on the topic 'Inside a future-ready MSME ecosystem' at the Small Business Summit, a panel discussion to empower MSMEs. Around 70 MSMEs attended the inaugural ceremony of 'Empower MSMEs' on 12 August 2024 at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The event, a collective initiative of WRI India and FaMeTN in association with CODISSIA - COIMBATORE DISTRICT SMALL INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION, Laghu Udyog Bharati, #iifcoimbatore, #siema and #sitarc, aims to springboard MSMEs to EV #manufacturing and #GreenEnergy transition. The launch ceremony at #elektrotec2024 attracted MSMEs from the automobile sector, subject matter experts, government officials, industry associations and more. The event created the platform for the first workshop on 'Integrating Environmental, Social, and #Governance (#ESG) into MSME business practices' was held. The workshop offered insights into ESG #strategies and #networking opportunities for MSMEs. Thiru RAJ KISHORE NAIK, Head of New Parts Development & Quality at Ashok Leyland delivered the #keynote address, emphasising the significance of skilling in the #green economy transition. He stated that "MSMEs are the heart of the Indian economy, and they will be the driving force in making India the third-largest economy by 2030. Around 150 MSMEs participated in FaMeTN's #vendordevelopmentprogram at the SIDCO Corporate Office on 30th July 2024. Representatives from the #armedforces, Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (#BHEL), Ashok Leyland and Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC Online) conducted procurement discussions with MSME participants. The Additional Commissioner of Industries and Commerce, Tmt Siva Soundaravalli IAS, was present during the inauguration ceremony. After each session, MSMEs had the opportunity to clarify their queries and network with buyers. Major General H Dharmarajan, PVSM, AVSM, SM**, VSM (Retd.), shared the opportunities for MSMEs in #Defence for the #Engineeringsector, providing valuable #insights for MSMEs to #nudge into the #defence sector. During the event, the #Major General shared, "The defence budget, one of the largest in the world, offers immense #opportunities for MSMEs. By enhancing our #digitalfootprint and bridging gaps in awareness, Tamil Nadu's #vendors can tap into a market worth ₹6.2 lakh crore and contribute to #NationalDefence." One of the MSMEs, Tmt Sangeetha from #MetonIndustries, a machined component shop, said: "The #procurement #discussion sessions clarified my doubts about the #supplychain of large industries. Redefining age with value: A young entrepreneur's journey of adding value to #Coir and #Environment. While exploring the outskirts of Pollachi, Mr Siddhartha Subramaniam noticed Tamil Nadu's Coir farmers selling raw materials to industries from other states. He wondered, "How could Tamil Nadu, a major Coir producer, not make value-added products?" This event set off a domino effect, leading him to an internship at #CherankattuCoir, a thesis on #CoirGeotextiles, and the inception of his enterprise, Shri Elakkiya Tex, in 2018, all by age 25. Siddhartha, an environment-conscious individual, was the first Coir-Geotextiles manufacturer to establish an #EffluentTreatmentPlant in South India in 2018. He also motivated his father, a #plasticmanufacturer and Shri Elakkiya Tex's first customer, to develop the same. When asked about his priorities, he emphasised #sustainability, stating, "The process of making an eco-friendly product should be #ecofriendly." Shri Elakkiya Tex was the first unit in South India to use a #powerloom for weaving coir geotextiles, making its products suitable for #export. Initially, they exported their products to markets in #Australia and #Japan. However, constructing roads using Coir Geotextiles under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (#PMGSYIII) led to a surge in local sales for Shri Elakkiya Tex. #covıd19 challenged Siddhartha's business, but he continued researching dyes and set up #dyeing machines in 2022. His determination to sustain his business through the COVID-19 pandemic was driven by the faces of the #farmers in Pollachi, whose struggles inspired him to start his #journey. In 2023, with TANCOIR's support, he succeeded in a Karnataka mining pilot project, securing orders for one lakh sq.m of Coir Geotextiles. Aiming to reach two lakh sq.m this year, he focuses on #woven Coir, which is more durable and sustainable than non-woven Coir. Siddhartha credits TANCOIR for technical, market, and export support, emphasising that constant #upgradation, #adaptability, and #sustainability were vital to his success. Today, the Hon'ble Minister for MSME, Government of Tamil Nadu, Thiru T.M. Anbarasan, presented the sanction orders to 123 MSMEs (beneficiaries of #AABCS, #NEEDS, #UYEGP, #PMEGP) to the tune of ₹47.20 crore as loan and ₹6.91 crore as subsidy at the District Collectorate, Tirunelveli. He also reviewed the performance of the General Managers of the District Industries Centre from the southern districts of Tamil Nadu and inspected MSME beneficiary units, including AABCS (Shanti Dental Clinic) and Capital Subsidy (Vinayaka Glass Industry). Additionally, he examined Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (#TNUHDB) projects in Ambedkar Nagar (408 residential units valued at ₹53 crore) and Rettiyarpatti (1,644 residential units valued at ₹225.41 crore), as well as the SIDCO Industrial Estate in Muthur, #Palayamkottai Taluk (covering 33.35 acres and valued at ₹15 crore). Abdul Wahab and the Hon'ble Member of the Legislative Assembly, Nanguneri Constituency, Thiru Ruby R Manoharan, the Former Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Thiru R Avudaiappan, the Former Minister, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Thiru T.P.M. Mohideen Khan, were present during the event.
