#FromVisionToImpact | SAMRIDH remains committed to advancing equitable access to high-quality #healthcare in underserved and resource-constrained settings. India's high maternal and child mortality rates are compounded by limited access to vital equipment like CPAP devices in primary and secondary care centres, contributing to 150,000 Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) induced neonatal deaths annually. This underscores the urgent need for a low-resource CPAP device, particularly in states where infant mortality surpasses the national average. Through its partnership with InnAccel Technologies, SAMRIDH has enabled deployment of over 1000+ Saans devices—critical neonatal respiratory support solutions—in remote regions. Following the successful deployment of 300+ devices across public health facilities in Asaam, with SAMRIDH’s support InnAccel has been able to expand its presence in other states like Rajasthan, where the government has procured and deployed over 600 devices. With these initiatives, SAMRIDH aims to ensure timely and essential respiratory care for infants in even the most remote areas. This initiative will address working capital gaps, provide comprehensive training for healthcare personnel, and support the operation of these devices, ultimately reducing neonatal mortality in high-risk regions. Last week, the #InnovationLeaders of Advance 2024 graduated from the Academy’s international scale up programme following six months of intensive online training and mentoring, culminating in an 11-day residential in the UK. Enhancing the technical and soft skills required to scale rapidly, Advance takes exceptional international innovators through rapid scaling and international growth, offering a bespoke programme of relationship-building and business growth activities for engineering entrepreneurs working on an impactful innovation. Innovators met entrepreneurship experts and leaders of the innovation ecosystem in the UK, furthered their ability to communicate and pitch, and discussed with experts in the field to refine their KPI’s and roadmap for future growth. Developing their network, innovators undertook a sector exchange day to regional innovation hubs around the UK, had 1:1 meetings with potential customers, investors and partners, and showcased their innovation on the Advance 2024 Pitch Day to two panels of stakeholders, adapting their communications to different audiences. The fourth Advance programme from LIF is the first to collaborate with the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation, and successfully opened the programme to non-alumni of the LIF programme for the first time: this diverse cohort was cultivated from a combination of international innovators, all of whom are addressing some of the most pressing global challenges under this year’s theme of health and inclusion. We’d like to thank our innovators, our delivery partner St John's Innovation Centre Ltd, and all those who contributed to the running of Advance 2024, a non-exhaustive list of which includes University of Sussex, Oxford Innovation, Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), University of Cambridge, and many more. The past financial year has been InnAccel's strongest one yet! Here are the highlights: 1) Sales of over 600 devices across India, with revenue growth of over 70% from last year 2) Completing our flagship public health deployment of Saans in Assam, providing breathing support to over 10K babies across the State so far, and reducing infant mortality and morbidity 3) Starting our second and third public health deployments - installing Saans in all Government NICUs and PICUs in Rajasthan, and initiating a 2-District Fetal Lite + Saans deployment in Karnataka 4) Achieving initial sales in multiple corporate chains 5) Generating strong clinical data for our VapCare technology, with dramatic reduction in lung infection rates and improved oral hygiene management These are still early days in our goal to treat 1 million patients with our life-saving technologies, and we would like to Thank the amazing people who have been on this journey with us - our dedicated team, the incredible network of partners (manufacturing, distribution, funding, project implementation), and most importantly, the Doctors, Nurses, and Technicians, who use our devices every day to help save patient lives! Founder, The Narrative Counsel | Host @ The HealthTech Narrative Podcast | Empowering Startup Growth

The latest and newest Ep 14 has dropped - packed with insights, and poses a challenge (to me) of bringing them out. Its also a testament to the brilliance of my guest. I spoke to Nitesh Kumar Jangir of InnAccel about, among other things, medical device certification, on which he provided well rounded insights - taking their product VapCare as a case study. Why should you listen to this 40 minute podcast (link in the comments)? Because InnAccel bakes in the ISO 13485 and CFR 21 standards within their product engineering and development process - becasue Nitesh Kumar Jangir is himself a product of the bio-design programme of Stanford and because he believes the words of the CTO of InnAccel Vijayarajan Alagumalai that regulatory requirements should't be viewed as hurdles, but should be seen as tools to make medical devices safe. Read (watch and listen) to a truncated version of his insights 👇 • The Problem Statement of VapCare: VapCare addresses the critical issue of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), a prevalent and severe hospital-acquired infection in #ICUs. This condition arises when patients on ventilators, unable to swallow or cough effectively due to sedation and the presence of an endotracheal tube, accumulate saliva and secretions around the tube. These secretions can become infected with bacteria, leading to pneumonia, significantly extending ICU stays and increasing #healthcarecosts • The Process of Developing VapCare - Following the 'need generation', the team embarked on creating a 'market requirement document' that translated the identified need into specific, actionable product requirements. This document guided the initial design explorations, employing cost-effective, engineering student-like approaches for early testing. This phase involved using readily available materials, such as PCBs, simple motors, and sensors, to validate the feasibility of various solutions. - Proof of Concept: Through low-cost, experimental setups, the team developed two to three proof of concepts from the initial designs, focusing on practical viability and engineering experimentation to ensure the core functionality could be realized. • Adhering to the ISO 13485 standard, which outlines the requirements for a comprehensive quality management system for the design and manufacture of medical devices, the process transitioned from theoretical designs to tangible prototypes. • Alpha and Beta Stages Towards Regulatory Readiness - The 'alpha design phase' produced a prototype that, while close to the envisioned product, primarily focused on refining functionality without yet addressing regulatory compliance. - Progressing to the 'beta design phase,' the focus shifted towards achieving regulatory readiness. This stage incorporated detailed 'engineering requirements' derived from the initial 'market requirement document'. Want to know about the practicality of making engineering or therapeutic claims? Then watch this <2 min clip
