What are the most effective ways to test database performance?
We should check for queries which takes more I/O, CPU and run time. And accordingly we should check what is feasible, such as indexing, fragmentation, parallel processing, processing in bulk, materialized view, query rewrite and lots more .. Tools which can help are explain plan, analysing AWR etc

What are the most effective ways to test database performance?
Database performance depends on different KPIs that need to be monitored. It can be done by in-house tool or other 3rd party tools. DB metrics includes " Current Active Sessions", "Average Active Sessions", "Average Active Sessions/ logical CPU", "Current OS Load" etc. Apart from DB metrics, DB Resource Utilization Stats also need to be considered such as "Number of all database open sessions", "open sessions vs. DB parameter sessions in percentage", "Used temp space", "Total temp space", "PGA allocated", etc. Wait events also need to be checked such as "Application Wait Time", "Commit Wait Time", "Concurrency Wait Time", "Scheduler Wait Time", "System and user I/O Wait Time", etc.
