グレタ・エルンマン・トゥーンベリ（Greta Ernman Thunberg スウェーデン語発音: [²ɡreːta ²tʉːnbærj]; 2003年1月3日 - ）とは、地球温暖化と気候変動の阻止を求めるストックホルム出身のスウェーデン人活動家である[3]。トランプ大統領等から皮肉を言われるとTwitterのプロフィールを変えている。なお日本語による表記では「グレータ・トゥンベリ」などの揺れがある[4]。
概要
2003年1月3日生まれで[5]、母はオペラ歌手のマレーナ・エルンマン、父は俳優のスヴァンテ・トゥーンベリである[6]。マレーナ・エルンマンの著書によるとグレタが8歳の時に地球温暖化問題を知って摂食障害になったこと、11歳の時にうつ病になったこと、さらにアンデルセン童話の『裸の王様』に喩えて「彼女は裸眼で二酸化炭素を見ることが出来る。グレタは二酸化炭素が煙突からどのように流れ出て、埋め立て地の雰囲気を変えるかが見えます。」と綴っている[7]。父の名は遠縁であるスヴァンテ・アレニウスが由来である[6][8]。祖父は俳優で監督のオロフ・トゥーンベリ[9]。
気候変動問題のための学校ストライキ

2018年8月20日、9年生になったトゥーンベリはスウェーデン国内で起こった熱波と山林火災を受けて9月9日に行われる総選挙まで学校に通わないと決め[10]、政府にパリ協定を遵守する形で二酸化炭素排出量を削減することを要求し、リクスダーゲンの前で毎日学校が開かれている間に「Skolstrejk för klimatet」（気候変動問題のための学校ストライキ）と書かれたプラカードを掲げて座り込みを行った[11] 。総選挙後も毎週金曜日のみながら座り込みを継続したことにより世界の注目を集めるようになり、トゥーンベリもまた世界中の学生に学校ストライキを呼びかけるようになった[8]。2018年12月時点で少なくとも270都市で2万人以上の学生がストライキを行った[8]。トゥーンベリは、自身の運動に共感しMarch for Our Livesの主催で気候変動問題のために学校ストライキを行った、フロリダ州にあるパークランドスクールの未成年活動家を称賛した[12][13]。2018年8月のスウェーデン議会前で1回目の気候変動問題のための学校ストライキを行ったことで一躍有名になった[10]。
2018年10月、エクスティンクション レベリオンによる「反乱宣言(Declaration of Rebellion)」という国会議事堂に対する抗議運動の一環でロンドンで家族と一緒に電気自動車に乗った[14][15]。
2018年11月、アスペルガー症候群、注意欠陥・多動性障害、強迫性障害、場面緘黙症と診断されたと述べた[16][17]。また、自身の家族のカーボンフットプリントを軽減させるために、家族に絶対菜食主義者になることと飛行機を使わないことを主張した[18]。
2018年11月24日、TEDxStockholmでの講演で[19][20][21]、8歳になった時、気候変動の存在に気づき、各チャンネルのニュースで世界大戦並に報じてくれないことに疑問を抱いたと述べた。また、気象学者になりたくて学校に行ってるわけではなく、一部で指摘されているように科学には否定や無知、不作為だけが残っているためだとも述べた。そして将来、まだ時間が残されていた2018年になぜ行動を起こさなかったかと自身の子供や孫に問われてしまうと懸念していて、最後に「我々はルールに従っていては世界を変えられない。なぜならルールを変えなければ行けないからだ。」と締めた[22]。
トゥーンベリは2018年12月4日に行われた第24回気候変動枠組条約締約国会議に出席し[8]、また12日の総会前に講演を行った[23][24]。会議の間、パネルトークに出席しWe Don't Have Time Foundation代表と対話を行い、どのように学校ストライキを行ったかについて話した[25]。
2019年1月23日、トゥーンベリは世界経済フォーラムでの気候変動問題運動の一環として[26][27]、出席者の多くが総計約1,500機にも及ぶ個人所有プライベートジェットで来たのに対し[28]、32時間の鉄道旅行の末にダボスに到着した[29]。座談会では「参加者における一部の人、企業、とりわけ政策立案者は天文学的な資金を生み出すために犠牲にされた貴重な価値観を正確に知っている。私はここにいる人達の多くがそのような人達であると思っています。」と述べた[30]。同週、グローバルリーダーに「我々の家は燃えている」と警告した上で、「恐れおののいて欲しい。私が毎日感じている恐怖を感じてほしい。若者に希望を与えるために尽くして欲しい。」と述べた[31][32]。
2019年2月21日、欧州連合経済社会評議会の会合で講演し、ジャン＝クロード・ユンケル欧州委員会委員長に気候目標の達成のために欧州連合は2030年までに二酸化炭素排出量を80%削減する必要があると主張した。その後、ブリュッセルで行われた気候に関する抗議運動に参加した[33][34]。
2019年3月15日金曜日に「未来のための世界気候ストライキ」を実施、同年5月に第2回を行い、国連気候会議やEU議会でスピーチをし、ノーベル平和賞の候補にもノミネートされ、TIME誌の「世界で最も影響力のある100人」に選ばれた[35]。同年9月23日開催の「国連気候行動サミット」でスピーチするため、12歳のときにCO2排出量ゼロのヨットで15日間かけて大西洋を渡ったが、環境への負荷を抑えるためにグレタが飛行機に乗るのをやめている[35]。大西洋公開成功後に、国連の温暖化対策サミットに登壇。「（あなたたちは）経済成長の話しかしていない」「あなたがたは私たちを裏切っている。でも、若い人たちはあなたの裏切りを悟りはじめている」と語り、気候変動への本格的な取り組みを訴えた[36]。
受賞
グレタ・トゥーンベリは2018年5月にスヴェンスカ・ダーグブラーデットが開催した若者対象の気候に関するディベート記事執筆コンテストで優勝した[37]。また、電力会社テルテ・エネルギの持続可能な開発を推進する子供や若者を対象にした賞である「Children's Climate Prize」にノミネートされたが、ファイナリストはストックホルムまで飛行機で行かなければならないため受賞できなかった[38]。同年11月、Fryshuset scholarship of the Young Role Model of the Yearを受賞した[39]。12月、タイムの2018年世界で影響力のある未成年25人の1人に選出された[40]。2019年、国際女性デーを記念して、スウェーデンで最も重要な女性に選ばれた。この賞はイニジオ研究所がアフトンブラーデット新聞の代理で行っている調査に基づいている[41]。また3名のノルウェー人弁護士が2019年のノーベル平和賞に推薦した[42][43]。2019年3月31日、ドイツのゴールデン・カメラ・アワードのSpecial Climate Protection賞を受賞した[44][45]。2019年9月25日には「ライト・ライブリフッド賞」を受賞した[46]。 2020年7月20日、ポルトガルのカルースト・グルベンキアン財団から、グルベンキアン人道賞を受賞し、賞金として100万ユーロが授与された[47]。

騒動
トゥーンベリによる学校ストライキが勢いを増した後、彼女は信用出来ないという声があった[48]一方で、知名度を利用して利益を得ようとする人達も出現した[49]。2018年末、We Don't Have Time Foundation (WDHT)設立者のイングマール・レンツホグはトゥーンベリを無給のユースアドバイザーとして招聘し、また彼女の名を利用し、彼女の知らないところでWDHTの商業子会社でレンツホグがCEOを務めるWe Don't Have Time ABのために100万の資金を調達しようとした。トゥーンベリは会社から給料をもらうことはなかった[50][51]。結局彼女はWDHTのボランティアアドバイザーを辞めることになり「どの団体の一部でもない。完全に独立していて、私のやってることは100パーセント無償である。」と述べた[52]。
なお、トランプとは後に国連で行われた気候行動サミットで、サミット会場入り直後の短時間だけ同じ場に居合わせた[53]。その際にはグレタのそばを側近と通り過ぎるトランプを、グレタが睨みつける様子が見られた[54]。また、トランプはこのサミットで行われたグレタの演説動画[55]を引用して、「彼女はとても幸せな少女に見える、明るく素晴らしい未来を心待ちにしているようだ。見ていて何とも気持ちがいい！」と投稿した[56]。

Now is one of those moments… I think that in many ways, we autistic are the normal ones, and the rest of the people are pretty strange, especially when it comes to the sustainability crisis, where everyone keeps saying that climate change is an existential threat and the most important issue of all and yet they just carry on like before.
