HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate St. Peter's Lutheran
4Church in the Village of St. Peter on the occasion of its 150th
5anniversary; and
6 WHEREAS, In the 1860s, settlers in Southeast Fayette County
7founded St. Peter's when they employed Pastor J.F. Schnurre to
8conduct services every other week; the fledgling congregation
9signed a charter to officially organize a church congregation
10on January 8, 1869; and
11 WHEREAS, On May 25, 1869, Samuel Fogler donated land to the
12congregation and a small church, park, and parsonage were
13built; several years later, a school was established and still
14operates today as St. Peter's Lutheran School; and
15 WHEREAS, After the congregation outgrew the original
16building, Anna Borchelt donated land on which a new church was
17built in 1894; the congregation built again in 1948, and the
18third church building was dedicated on May 28, 1950; and
19 WHEREAS, St. Peter's Lutheran Church has been a staple in
20the Village of St. Peter since its founding and provides
21spiritual inspiration, education, and charity to the citizens

1of the surrounding area; therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4congratulate St. Peter's Lutheran Church on the occasion of its
5150th anniversary; we recognize and respect its long tradition
6of service and participation in the Village of St. Peter and we
7wish them many more successful years; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the Reverend Ryan Meyer as a symbol of our esteem
10and respect.
