Lovely gardens. I had an enjoyable afternoon walking around the grounds. The dome is being constructed so I didn't get to see it. I can't blame them for improvement, I will just have to come back! I'm so excited to see so many native plantings. The pollinators were out on full force enjoying the nectar. Well done!

This Park is huge. Great for walking and catching great scenery. Also a bit romantic if you are stopping to just sit in the garden. Full of live nature and of course free of charge plenty of parking.
Be sure to remember where you parked the walking trail will have you walking for a long journey.
There's a park on the other side for kids to play. Bridge to cross if you find view of ponds calming. Trails to walk through the forest preserve and plenty of people out walking, running or picnicking. It's absolutely beautiful and a staple here in the state capital.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nicole W.Denver, CO2451851595May 12, 2016First to Review
So i feel all botanical gardens, conservatories, and park deserve 5 stars, cause it's public money making it amazing!
I haven't been inside, yet - cause - they close at 4... and when i'm in town, i work till 5... but at some point i'll make lunch... really.... i will
But the outside - the roses, the tons are different areas kept up, amazing a beautiful. Well done!!
Good see, it's great!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stephanie T.Springfield, IL019Jun 28, 2016
The park:
This park features a playground, a rose garden, a small botanical hothouse garden, tennis courts, a small lake with a boardwalk area, and a carillon that has regular concerts - so there's always lots to do! There are also fun events throughout the year so be sure to check the park's website and see if something will be happening when you visit.
Around the perimeter of the park is a one way road/pedestrian walkway - divided so one side is for cars and the other side is for pedestrians. But don't be concerned by that - the speed limit is 15mph and all the times I've been there I've never seen a car speed through it.
My husband and I would go on walks here fairly regularly while we still living in Springfield, and I would often take trips to the playground with my friend and her son. Overall there's something there for everyone, it's probably the nicest, most easily accessible outdoor area in Springfield.
Pokemon GO players:
Wasshington park is the best place to play Pokemon GO in Springfield besides downtown. Not only is it filled with pokestops but lots of pokemon always show up because the park is often bustling. The best I have found so far there: Dratini, Nidoking, and Snorlax. There are also plenty of pidgeys for leveling up. Park at the main parking lot by the carillon because often the pokestops there already have lures set up by other people. There are also two gyms - one at the carillon and one near the lake with the fountain. Happy hunting!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
