A man who fired a shot in a Janesville bar parking lot was arrested after jumping in the Rock River as he fled the scene on Saturday night, Janesville police reported.
At about 10:10 p.m. Saturday, a Janesville officer saw a disturbance in the parking lot of Riley’s Sports Bar and Grill, 209 W. Milwaukee St., and heard a gunshot from a vehicle leaving the parking lot, Sgt. Drew Severson said in a statement.
The officer saw a man later identified as Erik Heise, 34, of Janesville, get out from a passenger seat in the vehicle and start walking away. The officer attempted to stop Heise, but Heise began running and drew the gun from a holster and dropped it before jumping into the Rock River just east of Festival Street, Severson said.
The Janesville Fire Department boat helped take Heise into custody, and he was jailed on tentative charges of second-degree reckless endangering safety, intoxicated use of a firearm, and resisting an officer, Severson said.
